** May 6th
Meeting Summary **
The May meeting was our Awards Presentation.
In attendance were the San Diego Section winners
from the Greater San Diego Science and
Engineering Fair. Our guests included Grant
Thiessen and his father Kirby Thiessen as well
as Michael Threet with his parents Bob and
Margie Threet and his teacher Dr. Lynne
Shevinsky. The students presented their winning
projects to the members present and received
their Professional Society Awards for
outstanding achievement.
As this was the last meeting for the
2007-2008 schedule we had our End of Year raffle
drawing. For those of you who do not know, I
will explain. You have the opportunity to
purchase one ticket at each meeting that you
attend. These tickets are used in a drawing at
the last meeting of the year (May) for a cash
prize of $250. This year the lucky winner was
our Chairwoman, Denise McKay.
We also had plenty of regular raffle gifts to
spread around thanks to contributions from our
Vendors.
Our next meeting will be held September 2,
2008 and I hope to see you there.

The American
Society for Nondestructive Testing, Inc.
(ASNT) is the world’s largest technical society
for nondestructive testing (NDT) professionals.
ASNT promotes the discipline of NDT as a
profession and facilitates NDT research and
technology applications.
Nondestructive testing
(NDT) is the examination of an object with
technology that does not affect the object's
future usefulness. NDT provides an excellent
balance between quality control and
cost-effectiveness.
The term "NDT" includes many
methods that can:
-
detect internal or
external imperfections
-
determine structure,
composition, or material properties
-
measure geometric
characteristics
NDT is used in all phases of a
product's design and manufacture, including
materials selection, research and development,
assembly, quality control, and maintenance.
